If you’re looking for a top-of-the-line streaming box, the current-generation Apple TV 4K is usually at the top. But Roku recently launched an updated version of its Ultra that will give Apple a run for its money. And it’s $30 cheaper, too.
Faster processor, Wi-Fi 6 and a great voice remote
The updated Ultra has a processor that’s up to 30 percent faster than Roku’s other devices. It’s also an HDMI 2.1 streaming player that allows for quick media switching. With this, it will provide seamless, no-fuss transitions between different refresh rates or content sources on some TVs.
Another big plus with the update is Wi-Fi 6. It brings better streaming performance and improved efficiency in crowded environments. If you don’t want to use Wi-Fi, the Ultra still has a built-in Ethernet plug.
The Roku Ultra comes with the Voice Remote Pro (2nd Edition). While it has the usual remote functions, it also has some notable extras. Along with backlit buttons and USB-C charging, the remote has two new buttons. With Quick Launch, you can see personal shortcuts like specific apps, favorite voice commands, or anything else right on the TV screen. The new Guide button gives you one-touch access to the live TV channel guide with over 400 free, live linear channels.
If you ever lose the remote, you can just say a simple voice command—“Hey Roku, where’s the remote?” You can also pair Bluetooth headphones to the remote to listen to content without disturbing others.
The updated Roku Ultra retails for $99.99 and is available today through Roku’s site and other retailers in the coming weeks.
An attractive streaming device
While the previous Roku Ultra lagged behind the Apple TV 4K in many areas, that’s no longer the case with the updated model.
With a better processor, faster Wi-Fi, and a great remote, this is one of the best streaming devices on the market.
Roku continues to impress with great streaming devices and is making its presence felt in other areas of the smart home. One of the most interesting things you may not know about is Roku smart home security.
The company’s security products are affordable, easy to use, and work in conjunction with streaming devices.
